Who we are

Educators first. We have run the programmes we build for.

VON Learning is run by education professionals with more than twenty years between us in further education and awarding. We have taught on vocational programmes and led them as programme managers in colleges, and produced resources for awarding organisations across the UK in a range of sectors.

That history is why the resources look the way they do. We have written the schemes of work, sat through the standardisation meetings, and stood in front of the class that says it cannot do maths.

What we do

Four things, done properly, for people who are audited on them.

Most e-learning is a slide deck with a quiz bolted on. We write from the job the learner is training for, mark the work the way an examiner would, and give the people above them the evidence they need at inspection.

Resource design & build

Complete teaching sequences: interactive modules, worked solutions with examiner notes, animated explainers and tutor-facing answer sheets. Every scenario set on a real shop floor, ward, site or kitchen, with the units, tolerances and paperwork the learner will actually meet.

Assessment & question banks

Auto-marked practice with hints, partial credit and method marks. Exam-style papers with full mark schemes, acceptable tolerances and model answers. Items tagged to your criteria so coverage can be proved rather than argued.

Reporting & dashboards

Three views of the same truth: the tutor sees a cohort, the centre sees its provision, the awarding body sees every centre. Usage, scores, progress, at-risk flags and a one-click export an IQA can take into a sampling meeting.

Inside a module

Marked the way an examiner would mark it.

Every item is tagged to a criterion, auto-marked against the same scheme a tutor works from, and credits the method even when the final figure is wrong. This is one question from M3, exactly as a learner meets it.

M3 · Upper and lower bounds Question 3 of 4 3 marks
BORE 24.8 mm SHAFT 24.6 mm each to 1 d.p. clearance = ?

A shaft is measured at 24.6 mm and its bore at 24.8 mm, each correct to 1 decimal place. What is the greatest possible clearance between them?

  • 0.10 mm
  • 0.20 mm Your answer
  • 0.30 mm Correct
  • 0.25 mm
Hint · take the largest bore with the smallest shaft 2 of 3 · method mark awarded
  • Written from the measurement, not the topicThe question opens on an inspector’s reading, so the learner meets bounds as a thing that decides whether a part fits, not as a rule to memorise.
  • Partial credit, with the method namedChoosing 0.20 mm means the bounds were combined the right way but the wrong round. The learner keeps the method mark and is told which step went wrong.
  • Hints before answersOne hint is available on every item and is logged. A cohort leaning on the same hint tells the tutor where to reteach.
  • Tolerances the drawing would useNumerical answers accept a band, set by a subject-matter expert against the drawing, so a valid alternative route is never marked wrong.

Reporting & dashboards

The same data, told three ways.

A tutor wants to know who to sit with on Thursday. A centre manager wants to know whether the licence is being used. An awarding body wants to know which centres need a visit. One data model, three reads. Switch between them below.

Selected work

EAL Learn+: contextualised maths for engineering learners.

A complete licensing platform for EAL, part of the Enginuity Group: five teaching modules of GCSE mathematics rewritten around engineering practice, a store centres can buy from, and a dashboard they can report from.

Case study · awarding organisation

From a maths problem to a shop-floor consequence.

Learners on engineering programmes rarely fail maths because the maths is hard. They fail it because nothing in the question looks like the job. Every module in Learn+ starts from something a production manager would recognise: a scrap figure, a tool-life curve, a clearance that has to sit inside a drawing tolerance. It then lands the maths as the thing that explains it.

What we built

  • A licensing store with per-package detail, sampling before purchase, a basket, purchase-order ordering and licence-key issue
  • Five interactive modules with auto-marked practice, hints, partial credit and worked solutions carrying examiner notes
  • Five animated explainers, each ending on an unanswered question so a tutor can stop there as a starter or plenary
  • A curriculum map setting every module against the six DfE GCSE Mathematics domains, showing coverage, gaps and what is planned
  • Tutor-only answer sheets with full mark schemes, method marks and accepted tolerances on every question
  • A centre dashboard with usage and engagement reporting, plus an export for internal quality assurance
  • An internal catalogue manager so the EAL team can add, edit and reorder packages without a developer

How we work

Scoped in a fortnight, piloted in a term.

The order matters here. Mapping before writing is what keeps a package defensible at inspection, and a pilot before licensing is what keeps tutors on side.

  1. STEP 01

    Scope & map

We take your specification, unit by unit, and agree what each module has to evidence. You get a coverage map before a single screen is designed.

    1–2 weeks
  2. STEP 02

    Design & build

Scenarios written with subject-matter experts working in the sector, built as interactive modules with auto-marked practice and tutor answer sheets.

    4–8 weeks per package
  3. STEP 03

    Pilot & review

One cohort, one term, instrumented. We watch where learners stall and where tutors skip, then rewrite the items that are not earning their place.

    One teaching term
  4. STEP 04

    Licence & support

Flat centre licence or per-learner for pilots, hosted or handed over as SCORM. New modules land inside the licence; we keep the mapping current as criteria change.

    Annual, renewable

Standards & delivery

The unglamorous things that decide whether you can buy it.

WCAG 2.2 AA
Keyboard-operable throughout, visible focus, captions and transcripts on every film, and colour never the only carrier of meaning.
SCORM 1.2 & xAPI
Drop a package into Moodle, Canvas, Bud or your own LMS, or take the offline HTML for workshops with no reliable signal.
UK GDPR
Data held in the UK, learner records pseudonymised in reporting, and a data processing agreement issued with every licence.
Evidence exports
Attempt-level CSV for internal and external quality assurance, timestamped and traceable to the criteria each item is tagged against.
Offline-ready
Self-contained HTML that runs from a memory stick or a shared drive, with scores synced back when the learner is next online.
Content ownership
On bespoke work the content is yours: source files handed over on completion, with no lock-in to our hosting to keep using it.

Before you ask

Questions we get on the first call.

Who owns the content at the end?

On bespoke and white-label work, you do. Source files, assets and question banks are handed over on completion and you can host them yourself. Where you license an existing package from our catalogue, the licence covers use across your provision for its term. The content stays ours, your learner data stays yours.

How long does a package take to build?

A single module is typically four to six weeks from signed scope. A five-module package with films, answer sheets and a curriculum map runs eight to twelve weeks. Mapping is the first fortnight and it is the part worth not rushing, because it is what makes coverage provable later.

Will it work in our LMS?

Yes. Everything ships as SCORM 1.2 by default, with xAPI where your platform supports it. If you would rather not touch the LMS at all, the same modules run as self-contained HTML from a shared drive, and the dashboard picks up scores either way.

Can tutors see how the marking works?

Every package carries a tutor-only answer sheet with full worked solutions, method marks and the accepted tolerance on numerical answers. Auto-marking follows the same scheme, so a learner who takes a valid alternative route is not penalised for it.

How is it licensed and priced?

Flat centre licence per package per year, with no learner cap and nothing to count, is the usual shape. Per-learner pricing exists for a pilot or a single cohort and can be moved onto a centre licence at any point. Group agreements cover multiple sites under one contract with group-level reporting and consolidated invoicing.

Can we pilot before committing?

That is how most centres start. One cohort, one term, at per-learner pricing, with the reporting switched on so the decision at the end is made on evidence rather than impressions. Anything spent on the pilot comes off the first centre licence.

Get in touch

Bring us a specification and we will show you what it looks like built.

Thirty minutes, screen shared, your criteria on the table. We will walk through a live package, show the reporting a centre and an awarding body each see, and be straight with you about what it would take to do the same for yours.

We reply within one working day. No mailing list, no follow-up sequence.
